The Procedure

As with any other medical procedure, you'll have to fill up some points with basic information. You'll then have your before pictures taken in 5-8 different angles depending on the type of rhinoplasty you're doing. There are two types of Rhinoplasty Open or Closed. In closed rhinoplasty, everything is done within the nose which means scarless. Open rhinoplasty will need a tiny cut at the bottom of the nose. It's a great technique but it will leave a permanent scar.

Before the procedure, you need to fast (no food or water) for 8 hours before the operation. A good tip is to schedule a morning surgery so you won't be hungry or thirsty. The procedure itself takes between 1-2 hours depending on your doctor's advise.

You will be under anesthesia during the procedure and you will wake up in the recovery room with an IV where you slowly gain back your strength. Most patients will need to rest at the recovery room for 1-2 hours before allowed to go back.

Post Surgery Care Checklist Tips

You need to come back for a check up on 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th day. You will require 7 days to recover because this is the time when you have the protective splint and taping on with the stitches still inside.

After 7 days it is just swelling and bruising which you can manage with ice and makeup if you need to head out. The majority of the swelling will last 2-3 weeks.

You won't feel any pain after the surgery, the only moment that you will feel pain is on the 1st day that you came back for a check up where they remove the scabs from your nose so you can breathe through your nose again. You will feel lesser pain on the second day and there will be no more pain on day 3 onward. During recovery is your job to look after your nose, you are required to clean your nose with hydrogen peroxide. You must also take medications three times a day after your meal. To reduce swelling, it's advisable to drink pumpkin juice.
